May 13, 2014 Guild meeting

The meeting was held at Blue Ridge Library. Kathy Woods said there would be no Show & Tell since she wanted to allow maximum time to the speaker, but she did allow Janice Taylor to show a bed-size Labyrinth quilt she had made that was going out in the mail the next day.

Kitty Yates introduced the guest speaker, Lori Clayton, of Threads Run Thru It Quilt Shop in Phenix, VA, whose topic was Rulers. The meeting was centered around the speaker and her vending table. Ms. Clayton spoke from about 6:45pm until around 8:30pm, demonstrating rulers and the books and/or quilts/quilt blocks associated with them. During the course of the evening, there were separate occasions when quite a number of door prizes were given out. After her presentation, shopping was open. Ms. Clayton explained that the shop is located in Phenix, VA which is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from the Blue Ridge area. The shop not only offers quilting fabrics, but also classes, longarm quilting services, and custom embroidery. The meeting was well attended by members and several guests were also present.

A reminder that the June meeting will be a workshop for members to assemble the flower and ball quilt blocks that were passed out earlier. These quilts will be donated to the Crisis Pregnancy Center. So, bring your sewing machine and completed blocks; also bring any blocks you have not completed and work on them at the meeting.

Also upcoming in June is the Barn Quilt classes to be held at the Library on June 14th and June 21st. Don’t forget to sign up with the Library as space will be limited.
