The June 10, 2014 meeting convened at 6:45pm and was well attended; we had 2 visitors, who each received a fat quarter. This meeting marked the last for Candy Schladt, whose husband landed a position in Florida, so she will be moving there, too. Candy was presented with a card and going away gift. We all wish her well and hope she will stay in touch.
If you are interested in car pooling to the Blue Ridge Quilt Show in Blacksburg, July 9-12, let Kathy Wickham know. There is an entry fee discount for cars with 5 people. Likewise, if you are interested in joining Star Quilters members in a quilting retreat at Threads Run Thru It in Phenix, VA in September, also let Kathy Wickham know. The cost will be $75 and will include one overnight stay plus 3 meals and a class taught by owner, Lori Clayton, who spoke at our Guild last month.
Show and Tell was participated in by several members and Kathy Wickham marked items completed on members Get Er Done lists. There is a lot of talent in our group!
The project for the meeting was the Rosie Posie and Ball quilt blocks for the Pregnancy Crisis Center. About 6-8 people turned in their blocks and backing and batting was cut while one person sewed blocks together. The two completed tops and other blocks with backs and batting were taken home by members to be completed and returned at the August meeting.
A reminder, the Barn Quilt 2-part classes will be Saturday, June 14th and June 21st. If interested, contact Kathy Woods.
Next month’s meeting will be a Field Trip to “Old Trinity Quilt Shop” on Rt 220 Troutville. Carolyn will have a program on Reproductions and Civil War Quilts. Also new techniques in quilting. There will also be time for shopping!
The meeting began breaking up at 8pm.
