Blue Ridge Quilters Feb 9th meeting

Last night was the monthly Zoom meeting of the Blue Ridge Quilters Guild. It was mentioned that our membership now numbers 30, and there were 12 who joined the meeting, plus the speaker,

After a short business meeting, Speaker Gail Mayhue demonstrated and taught two methods of Quilt As You Go. Several members sewed along with Gail’s instruction to get hands on experience in how to Quilt As You Go. After her very nice demonstration and sew-along, there was Show & Tell, see pictures nearby.

February 2021 Zoom meeting. Two other members had already left for other appointments.

The top two photos are Cathy Henderson’s quilts; the first is for an expected baby in the family and the second is an embroidered quilt she made and quilted. The balance of the photos are Kathy Wickham showing first a Valentine shaped hot pad, then one of several Valentine mug rugs she made, then two of the seven star blocks she made in a recent Zoom meeting with a NC quilt shop (yes, the star is supposed to be wonky) and finally, a table runner and an embroidered quilt. Beautiful work, ladies !

The program for the evening was presented by Gail Mayhue who gave a demonstration and sew-along on two Quilt As You Go techniques. Her presentation was very well done and quite informative. Cathy Henderson later commented that the cover of the February 2021 issue of McCalls Quilting features Spring Posies, a Quilt As You Go quilt on the cover (the excellent article begins on page 29) as well as a Pretty Blossoms Quilt As You Go table runner on page 49.

All in all it was an excellent meeting and we didn’t have to lug our machines et al out of the house, into the car, out of the car, into the Library and reverse the procedure in 2 hours ! Zoom has its pluses. Hope to see you all next month.
