Blue Ridge Quilters Meeting May 12, 2015

The May 12th meeting was brought to order by Kathy Woods, who informed us that Carol Zaleski was unable to attend tonight because she is in Lewis Gale Hospital with a TGA experience and is expected to be released tomorrow, Wednesday. We wish her well.

Kathy Wickham told about the June meeting being a field trip to The Fabric Barn in Montvale. The shop will be closed to the public during the time of our visit and there will be a program plus we will be free to do some shopping. We will be meeting at The Fabric Barn so if you want to car pool, make those arrangements ahead of time.

There was show and tell with some lovely quilts large and small shown by several members. Then came time for the Row of the Month; see picture nearby. It is continually amazing how the same thing can look so different, depending on the maker. Good job, ladies !!

Kathy also gave out patterns for Row #5, which is nearby. Click on the pattern to enlarge it, then press Control/P to print. One block is 5.5″x 5.75″ and will not come out to an even 60″ row; you can make half a tree on one end plus the two 1.5″x5.5″ filler pieces to make it come out to 60 inches. Or, you can do it however you want to make it come out to 60″. Have fun with it.

The program was The Pat Lingle Show, as Gayla Heath called it. They had numerous examples of wool projects (see pictures nearby) and a lot of stories about how those samples came to be. In her talk, Pat went from Block of the Month projects to Block of the Quarter projects, to Annual Gingerbread Houses projects ! She was extremely informative about the process of preparing and handling wool, as well as the progression of techniques through the years. How to felt wool was discussed, as well as types of threads to use (or not use), and combining wools with cotton fabrics.

Pat Lingle posed the possibility of holding a Wool Workshop to make and take a small project, and the idea was well accepted. Stay tuned for further information about a workshop, possibly on a Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Let Kathy Woods know if you are interested.

Hope to see you all at The Fabric Barn next month.20150512_185158Row #4 show and tell20150512_195724 Pat Lingle and Gayla Heath20150512_195517 Samples of wool items20150512_195523 Samples of wool itemsCCF05122015_00000Row #5, page 1CCF05122015_00001Row #5, page 2
