Feb. 12, 2019 Meeting

We met at the Bonsack Baptist Church because of some issues at the Library. Somehow we all found where we were supposed to be and had a great meeting.

Tina Dietz went over a few of the upcoming programs, including April’s meeting where there will be a make-it-and-take-it night with a Spring Flower table topper! Sounds like fun; stay tuned for further information.

Tina with Spring Flower For Your Table

The Community Service Project for 2019 will be to make quilts for young men and women who are aging out of foster care. Tina Dietz showed us samples of heart blocks she had made, and several others showed heart blocks they had made; everyone shared their heart block patterns, which were printed right there and folks picked up the patterns they wanted to try. Folks are asked to make as many heart blocks as they would like to in any size they prefer. The blocks will be gathered a bit later in the year and there will be a sewing day where we will use these blocks to make as many quilts as possible for our Community Service Project.

Then came Show & Tell. Our Historian (picture taker) was not present and the picture of Jo Bell’s Friendship Quilt was not taken, but I did find a picture of it before it was put on the longarm quilter. She really did a great job on this beauty. Vickie Hammond shared a beautiful small embroidered piece she had made. Janice Taylor had several items to show (this girl stays busy!). She had baby blankets, two blocks she was able to make from Tina’s January instructive meeting – I made one, did you? Janice also showed a very clever patchwork denim quilt she had made which included pockets, zippers, leather levi tags and all manner of things !! On the back, she used bandanas very effectively.

Library Display Case

Friday, March 1, 2019 was the day for Blue Ridge Quilters to decorate the Library Display Case in celebration of National Quilting Month. And what a pleasure that always is. Those who participated were a motley crew, I mean a very talented and lovely group including Loretta Twiford, Tina Dietz, Julie Shelton, and Vickie Anway.

Among the items included in the case are Guild projects such as Fidget Quilts, Scent Babies, Ryan’s Smiles pillow case. Also there is a sample of April’s upcoming make-it-and-take-it project of a Spring Flower For Your Table. There are barn quilts, an old hand quilted quilt, several table runners, books, magazines, stuffed toys, miniature sewing machines, quilting equipment such as rotary cutter, cutting mat, rulers, thread, pin cushion, scissors, etc. There are also small quilted items, a bag with a quilting logo, many and varied quilt blocks and all manner of interesting items pertaining to quilting.

If you have items for the display case, I am sure room can be found if you just bring your item/s to the next regular meeting on March 12th. Be sure to affix your name to your item/s (return address labels work nicely).

The March program will feature Cathy Henderson demonstrating how to quilt our quilts using Stephanie Farrow’s templates and special sewing machine foot. Be sure to be there !
